What Is a Geothermal Pile?
The geothermal pile or thermal pile is a foundation pile in which are inserted the sensors connected to a geothermal heating system. The geothermal pile can therefore accomplish two important tasks: to maintain a building built on unstable ground and to channel the heat from the ground to a heat pump.
The geothermal pile can be installed during the construction of a building or even under the foundation of an existing building. In Quebec, the company Pretech is a pioneer in the construction of geothermal piles, or piles heat, they have patented under the name Thermo-piles®.
